Use Case #3: Revolutionizing Automotive Catalysts:

Use Case #3 is all about turning old into new by recycling spent catalytic converters to create fresh, high-performance automotive catalysts. This innovative endeavour, led by MONOLITHOS Catalysts and Recycling Ltd. and Centro Ricerche Fiat (CRF) – Stellantis, aims to cut down on raw material usage, slash costs, and reduce environmental impact.

MONOLITHOS, a Greek SME, spearheads the collection, sorting, and preprocessing of spent catalytic converters across Greece. Their facility can handle up to 40,000 units annually, extracting precious metals like Platinum (Pt), Palladium (Pd), and Rhodium (Rh) through eco-friendly methods. These metals are then used to produce top-quality catalytic converters, incorporating Copper (Cu) nanoparticles to minimize the need for additional PGMs.

CRF plays a crucial role in testing and validating these new catalysts. They ensure that the catalysts meet stringent environmental regulations, industry standards, and commercial requirements.

This initiative not only promotes recycling and sustainability but also enhances traceability with a Digital Product Passport, ensuring transparency and boosting the automotive sector’s competitiveness. By integrating cutting-edge recycling and testing methods, Data4Circ is paving the way for a greener, more efficient future in automotive manufacturing.
